Bausch & Lomb is voluntarily suspending shipments of ReNu
Moisture Loc contact lens solution because of possible links to a
dangerous fungal infection (fusarium).
The Centers for Disease Control is investigating 109 reports in 17
states of an eye fungus, which, if left untreated, can cause
temporary blindness.
The source of the fungus isn't known. So far, the CDC has
reviewed only 30 of the 109 cases. Of those 30, 28 are contact
lens wearers. Of the contact lens wearers, 21 reported using
ReNu brand contact lens care products and five reported using a
combination of ReNu and products made by other companies.
B&L recommends that people using ReNu Moisture Loc check
with their optometrist or ophthalmologist if they have questions
or concerns, and remove their lenses if they are having any
problems.
The symptoms of Fusarium keratitis include sudden blurred or
fuzzy vision, red and irritated eyes lasting for an unusually long
period of time, pain in and around the eyes, increased sensitivity
to light and excessive eye tearing. If you experience these
symptoms you should contact your optometrist immediately.
